Stripers Inc's 1st trip 3/9/09

Posted on March 11, 2009

Matt and Ryan fished 2 trips with me and we had a blast.  We quickly caught our limit on both trips using bait.  We switched to sassy shad and threw lures the rest of the time so we could catch and release.  The fish were definatly biting better off of bait than lures.

The first trip we fished in the morning.  I anchored out in 73' of water under some birds and hammered them.  We caught our limit in about 30 minutes.  I kept a slot open and we caught and released for another 30 minutes until we gut hooked the last fish in our limit.  Then we tied on some 4" glow sassy shad with 1 oz heads and started chunking lead.  We fished for another hour and a half throwing lures against the rock bluffs and caught some more nice stripers and a monster smallmouth.

The second day we went out in the evening and my cousin Micah went along with us so we could keep 10 extra fish.  It was a lot windier and the fish were not as agressive as the 1st day but we still had a blast and caught our limit off of bait in about an hour and a half.  I saved 2 slots to lure fish for the rest of the trip but the lure fishing proved to be a lot tougher than the 1st day with all the wind.  It took us 2 hours to get into some fish to finish off our limit.  There were a lot of fish but they were deep and it was hard to fish for them in the hard winds.  We even pulled up to 4-5 differend flocks of birds beating the water near the banks but they were all working over loons and no fish.  All in all it was a great day.  We caught them on bait and finally managed to make them bite on lures to finins off our limit.
