Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Week Day Special and Topwater Action!

I don't think I've ever had a bad trip fishing in the rain. It was the best trip yet this evening. My customers told me they wanted a big fish so I decided to do my best to produce. We started out trying topwater but couldn't find any takers. We then went to drift bait in 15ft. of water. The first rod we put down immediately went down and we landed a 7lber before I could get any other rod out. We were drifting shiners, black salties, and a big gizzard shad. The fish wanted the shiners but were eating the black salties too. My big gizzard didn’t get touched this evening. After a few drifts of catching fish I decided to try an anchor. We dropped anchor in 25ft and the fish went nuts. As fast as you could drop your bait down you would hook up a fish. Most all of them were 18-20” and nice and healthy. It wasn’t long before we had put a limit of 30 fish in the box and my customers were ready to go because they were wet and cold. On the way back I saw 2 cranes sitting on the bank and I couldn’t resist the temptation. I stopped the boat and told everyone that this would only take a second. I chunked a topwater plug out and gave it a few jerks and then there was a massive explosion on the lure and the drag started humming. I passed someone the rod and went for the net. Took a while to land her but we finally got her in the boat. I she was probably in the 12-14 lb range. We took some pictures and turned her loose. Made a few more casts and landed a few smaller fish and another fish around 8lbs before we called it quits for good. I love fishing in the rain!

This was our first topwater bite of the year and it should only get better. I’m offering week day specials Monday – Friday through the end of April for $100/person so come out and catch some of these big fish on topwater!
