Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: June 11-14

Posted on June 14, 2010

I had a rare but welcome couple of days off last week and it gave me a chance to get caught up around the house. I think I work harder on my days off than I do when I’m fishing. I got to do all the fun stuff like mow the lawn, pull a month’s worth of weeds out of the garden, clean my filthy boat and truck and rescue a baby cotton tail from the jaws of my Chesapeake Bay retriever, Beare. The bunny was weak but still alive so I turned him over to the care of my fiancée Megan who has successfully brought him back to health. We’ve had him about a week now had he is doing great. His name is Clover and the plan is to release him back into the wild when he gets strong enough but after seeing how attached Megan has getting, I’m afraid that we now may have a new pet rabbit but we shall see how it goes.

The fishing remains excellent. We are still catching fish hand over fist and limits are coming in on nearly every trip. Most all of the fish have moved out into the deep water and we’re fishing on anchor in 65 ft. of water using live bait. Beating the water is a must to get the fish to start biting but once you get them under you, it’s on! Up until last week we’ve been catching good fish on every trip but the past few days the big fish have come down with a case of lock jaw. Its not that I can’t find them, I know where they are at. I fish for them just about every trip but they just will not bite. I’ve thrown everything imaginable down at them and I might be lucky to catch 1 in the 4-5 pound range and they are gone. I’ve tried threadfin, big gizzards, medium gizzards, black salties, shiners, cut bait, sassy shad, and slabs but no luck. Some trips I can’t even get one to bite. I know they are big fish. Big fish look different on the graph and I caught them in the same locations last year with the same marks on the graph. I’m anticipating them begin biting again any day now. July is normally my best big fish month of the year and I’m hoping this year will be no different. Only time will tell.
