Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Record Breaking Fish Population

Posted on May 9, 2019

Striper fishing on Lake Texoma is some of the best fishing that you will find for some many hundreds of miles and I am lucky to call it my home. Growing up on Texoma I developed a love for fishing early in life and soon found that there was nothing I would rather be doing. Now I am 35 and have been fishing professionally here on Lake Texoma for17 years and I couldn't be happier. I truly enjoy putting people on fish and making memories that will last a lifetime with their friends and family. Its May and fishing right now is as good as it has ever been from what I have seen with my experience on the lake. The biologists survey done in February recorded twice as many fish in their nets as previous years and setting a record for the survey sampling which has been conducted annually since 1993. The abundance of fish certainly shows out on the water, we are easily bringing in limits of fish and catching several big fish in the 6-10 pound range. I've said it before but I really mean it this time, now is the time to be on the water!

May is a great time to fish and this May is no exception. We have been bringing home limits of fish on every trip and catching them on topwaters, slabs, and live bait. We have been fishing live bait and slabs on anchor at the same time, some days I just put the bait rods up because the slabs are working better and you catch more fish when you don't have to rebait your hook. Sometimes I find the fish already schooled up but often they are scattered about. I'll find an area where I can mark one or two fish and then setup anchor and start slapping the water to call them in. Here lately they have been coming to the boat and staying under us for the whole trip, allowing us to catch fish after fish until we all get our fill. The bait has been hard to catch so we have been buying shiners for most trips which are getting eaten just as fast. The fish are hungry and eager to feed so just about everywhere you go you can catch fish. The other morning, because of the storms, I didn't even leave the marina and caught a mess of stripers on topwater before we had to run for cover. The fishing seems to be equally productive in the morning as well as the evening making it easy for everyone to catch fish so it is a great time to bring out the kids or that friend of yours who has never been fishing before, yes, even he will catch fish this time.

It is a special treat for me to get to make memories with my own family and share what I do with them. May 5 I took out 4 generations of my family and finally got everyone on the water together with my granddad. Those of you who organize these trips know its not easy to get everyone on the same page but it is worth it because that window of opportunity only lasts so long to make these memories.

May 7 I got the privilege to take my life long friend and his family out. We grew up fishing and hunting around the lake together and had many wild adventures back in the day, it was good to add another adventure with each other to the list.

Summer is just around the corner and the kids will be soon out of school which means our busy season is nearly here. Our weekend trips are filling up fast but I highly recommend coming during the week if possible as it is less crowed which means the fish will bite better. You can book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or give us a call at (903)815-1609 and we'll get you set up over the phone. If you have any questions about our trips don't hesitate to ask.
