Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Lures Still Hot

Posted on August 1, 2011

The striper fishing has been good for the most part here on Lake Texoma this past week. The topwater action is hot early during the first couple hours of daylight and then it slows way down. We’ve been using cohoes and slabs under the schooling fish and bring them in the boat on every cast. Most of the fish have been over 20” so we have been throwing a lot back and not reaching our limits due to the lack of small fish. Needless to say I’ve yet to get a complaint from catching too many big fish. However, not every day has been good, some days they do not feed as well as others, especially if there is a lot of boat traffic, but that’s fishing.

The fish have been getting shallower and shallower by the day searching for cooler water. After the sun comes up, they are moving back out into deeper water on the ledges around 30-40ft. When they are feeding you can throw anything in them and they will hit it, I like using cohoes, which is a soft plastic swim bait, because the single hook enables you to get the fish off the hook and the lure back in the water faster. As far as slabs, the fish do not seem to have a preference. I’ve been using a 2 oz. chartreuse slab.

I’m not sure what August will hold for us this year, last year we had a good towater bite all through August but the patterns are different this year so it’s hard to predict. Right now the fishing is still good, the fish are feeding regularly and have maintained a healthy weight. I’ll be going on vacation in California August 19-28 so I will be unavailable. You will still be able to reach me by phone at (903)815-1609 so if you can’t wait for me to get back, I can get you set up to fish with one of my other highly qualified fishing guides while I’m away. I still have several days open next week so if you want to get in on this action, you can book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or just give me a call at (903)815-1609 and I’ll get you set up.
