Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Time to Get Sassy
Posted on January 7, 2013The lake is a sacred place to me, the water brings peace to my soul. Simply being present to behold the glory of the sunrise over the water awakens a deep gratitude for existence. Fishing is life, an ancient dance between the fishermen and the fish, it is beautiful. What a blessing to witness a bald eagle swoop down and capture a fish in its talons and realize that you are but dancing the same dance with the fish. A group of seagulls are diving and calling to the rest to join, they have found a school of fish in a feeding frenzy pushing the shad to the surface where the gulls can catch them. The loons join in on the fun singing their song and then we join in too. Casting, rods bending, drag screaming, smiling faces, everyone has a fish on, this is the dance. This is my art and these are the memories which I strive to create for you. I know not what experience each day holds for us, we will go fishing as friends, no expectations, no worries and after the trip I ask that you pay what you feel the experience is worth to you, knowing I will be grateful for whatever is given. This is the gift economy and it has given me a deeper level of satisfaction to my work. To me the experience is an end in and of itself rather than a means to receive payment. Even if nothing is given in return the experience itself is enough, for this experience I am grateful. Each fish is a blessing and each client is a friend. So I invite you to come fishing with me and we shall share in this experience together.
Now it is winter and though I enjoy all seasons winter happens to be my favorite. With winter comes a greater peace, there are few if any boats on the water and there is no race for the fish, and with winter comes lure season. Now is the time to get sassy! The fish have now moved into their winter patterns grouped in tight pod like schools holding on the bottom in 15-30 ft. along the points and ledges all around the lake. Reeling big sassys slowly along the bottom is the most productive approach to fish this pattern. The best part is once you find the fish, you have found where they live, they will be there again and again sometimes as long as the pattern persists which is typically through March. Mark them on your GPS and return in a couple of hours or the next time you’re out and fish it again, only this time don’t try to mark them on the graph first, just drift over the same spot and fish without running the engine over them. Find several of these locations, fish them all and repeat the pattern until you’re tired of catching fish.
I will be fishing lures only from now through the end of March, targeting big fish when I can find them. 8–10 pound fish have become common on most trips and it is quite possible that we may catch something bigger. You can book your trip online by visiting my website www.stripersinc.com or give me a call at (903)815-1609 and I’ll get you set up. I’ll be looking forward to fishing with you.
