Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Understanding Luck
Posted on April 12, 2013
What is luck? How does it happen that some of the best fishermen have bad days where they can’t seem to catch fish even when others are catching them? Even the most talented athletes and best gamblers have slumps and hot streaks but why? Almost every trip it seems there is someone on my boat who is not catching fish like everyone else. Most often they assume they are doing something wrong, and sometimes that is the case but usually it is due to luck. As a fishing guide other people are relying on me to have good luck so it has prompted me investigate this force of luck more deeply. To me luck is a breath, a constant flow of energy moving between two poles of attraction and repulsion. By aligning yourself with this flow you put yourself in the best state to receive the inward flow of good luck. Some may call it being in a state of grace to receive blessings. To be in the flow, be in total acceptance of it, like your own breath do not resist as the inward flow turns to the outward flow. You breath in and breath out naturally without any effort but if you hold your breath you disturb the balance and flow. What you resist persists so if you become frustrated or have an aversion to the outward flow of repulsion then it becomes like holding your breath and you will delay the next inward breath. Dance with this flow and accept the present moment totally as it is and you will maximize your success in anything you do.
As for the striper fishing report, most days have been blessed with success. We have had some amazing trips catching big fish since the last time I posted which was in February but of course there have been a few slow trips mixed in too. The winter pattern I fish is throwing sassy shad along underwater structure like points, ledges, creek channels, brush piles, and stump beds in water 15-30 ft. The fish are now transitioning patterns into a more of a spring pattern and can be caught using bait or lures, at least as of my last trip. Using bait I have had success on anchor in about 25-50 ft. off the ledges. The bigger fish are still better using sassy shad and I’ve caught them under birds in the back wind blown coves and creeks in 8-40ft. I’m now carrying bait and lures so I’ll be ready for whatever the fish want for that day.
Here are some highlights since my last report:
And this is from my last trip
Spring is one of the most popular times to fish and can be one of the more consistent times of the year for success. Almost all of my weekend trips are now booked until June but I have lots of availability during the week which should make for better fishing since it will be less crowded. I practice the gift economy which means I do not have set rates. We will go fishing as friends and after the trip you are free to give in return whatever you feel the trip is worth to you. So I would like to invite you to come fishing with me, to book your trip you can go online to my website at www.stripersinc.com or give me a call at (903)815-1609.
Also, I am putting together a drum circle at Little Mineral on April 26. Bring a drum, rattle, something to make noise with or just move your feet to the beat. It will be at dark Friday evening around a bonfire on the beach there by the boat ramp and will last until the drumming stops. Everyone is welcome. https://www.facebook.com/circleroundthemoon
