Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Come Journey With Us
Posted on August 22, 2013Come journey with me across the waters to the place where words can not touch. There as the Son’s rays begin to break through the horizon we will dance. Dance the ancient dance between the fish and fishermen. There we will cast our intentions into the abyss to connect with what we are seeking. When the two meet, when the connection is made, we become one, the dance begins. Beauty ripples through the emotions as your line is pulled by the ancient fish spiraling through the depths. If only but for a moment, the past and future are forgotten, worries and stress vanish and all that remains is the dance within the present. This is the experience I hope to facilitate for you, come journey with me.
August in Texas is a fickle mistress to be sure. We have had fall like days and normal scorching temperatures. As for the final days of the month the weather seems to have settled into a moderate pattern with the mornings being predicted in the 70’s and the midday highs being in the middle to high 90’s. Our morning trips are leaving out at 6:30 A.M. and last a minimum of 4 hours. That puts you in right around 10:30 as the suns just starting to get high enough to be felt. Not bad for August in Texas. The warm weather is a reminder for us that we are creeping into one of our favorite times of the year. Fall.
Fall top water season is certainly one of the most exciting times of the year to fish. Cool crisp mornings with a fish hooking up every time you turn around and line zipping out as you real “the big one” ever closer to the boat. There’s nothing like it on earth.
As for right now though, we’re still in summer, but that doesn’t mean the fishing is any less fantastic. We’re using live shad for bait to target the magnificent Morone saxatilis; the Striped Bass or Striper as we call them here on Lake Texoma. We are taking advantage of the naturaley occurring Ledges fishing in 30-40 foot of water. I’ve also found sitting on anchor and calling your chosen prey to you is the way to go for now. We call them by beating the water with a resonating “Thu-woop” as a broken pole forces its way through the water. This noise mimics the sound of a school feeding and is often too tempting to resist for fish.
We are coming in with good box fish on our trips in the 2-3 lb range with a few larger fish thrown in for good measure. The time for the bigger fish is fast approaching where the limit is only 2 a piece over 20 inches so if you’re coming with meat in mind this is a great time to take advantage when the 2-3 lb fish are still biting. The limit for under 20 inches is 10 a piece which often yields a good amount of very tasty fish. Speaking of very tasty fish, Our favorite recipe this week is pesto seared Striper.
Here are some hightlights from the summer fishing, soon we will be catching these monsters on topwaters.
Pesto Seared Striper
Ingredients:
4 brined Striped bass filets (preferably caught with Stripers Inc. ;p)
3 tablespoons of Coconut Oil
1 container of prepared Pesto Sauce
(Notes: You can make your own pesto sauce with a multitude of recipes found online but as it were I don’t have time for such these days with a little one just starting to take steps! Also see our recipe for brine at www.stripersinc.com under the recipes section if you’re not familiar.)
Steps:
• Heat the coconut oil into a skillet on medium heat
• Coat the filets with the pesto sauce. Don’t be stingy the more the merrier.
• Once the pan is heated, gently lay the coated filet into the pan
• Sear each side until the fish is cooked through out.
• Enjoy the deliciousness you have created.
We still have some availability for this last little bit of August and would be happy to take you fishing. Fall is fast approaching and prime fishing slots go fast. If you need a weekend I would recommend booking well in advance. We are already starting booking into November, but don’t worry there are plenty of spots left. The first cool snap could be any time and that will mark the change in the season and you can bet we will be out there hammering the fish. The question is…will you?
You can call us to book your trip at (903)815-1609 or book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com.
We look forward to fishing with you.
