Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Blog

          Lake Texoma surface temperature is about 55°. There was enough rain from the last cold front to get the rivers flowing enough to bring the stripers into the spawn/pre-spawn phase. The fish were moving around a lot this week as their patterns were changing and we had to search for them. The fishing was hit and miss depending on the day, as it usually is in march, but we still managed to catch some decent fish this week. The fish are moving up into shallow flats of about 15-30ft and drifting with live bait seems to be working well for them. Sassy shad are also working but only right at dawn and dusk. There are a lot of fish that have moved towards the river mouths and in the back of creeks that are staging to make their run to go spawn. The fish will not move all at once so that is what makes them more difficult to catch during this stage because they become scattered through out the lake. I’m still catching plenty of fish most of the time, but we’re having to work harder at it. Yesterday morning we caught 35 stripers and about 20 sandbass before we got tired and came in at around 1:00. It was a slow steady pick all day. It will only be a few more days before the fishing really kicks off in April so book your trip now while there are still openings.
