Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Its May! What More Can I Say?

Posted on May 25, 2010

May has certainly lived up to its reputation as being one of the best months to come fishing on Texoma. Right now the fishing is as good as it gets and it is not showing any signs of slowing down. I’ve been fishing every day and many times twice a day for several weeks now with limits caught on every trip with the exception of one where we had to come in 4 fish shy after having to throw back 20-30 fish over 20 inches. Most days we are catching our limit within the first hour and spending the rest of the time playing catch and release or catfishing at the dock. We are starting to catch a lot of big fish and I’m bringing an 8-12 pound fish in the boat on just about every trip. Needless to say, IT’S ON!

The fish are holding on the river ledges in 30-60 ft. and they are also starting to move out to deep water structure as well. It is not important to mark lots of fish. Just set anchor over the ledge and drop down some live bait or fresh cut bait at the depth you marked the fish. Then beat the water with an old fishing rod with all your heart. If you have a surplus of bait you will want to throw down some chum as you are doing this. Soon the fish will start showing up under the boat and a little bit longer the first rod will go down. This will start a chain reaction as all the rest of the rods in the water will go down shortly after that. Then with a fish on every rod you will look back at the graph and notice that it is a solid black out with fish! This is what I like to call Game Time! You will do much better away from other boats because they have already called fish under them and you will not be able to anchor next to another boat catching fish and call them out from under them. And remember, bigger baits catch bigger fish.

I have several evenings available the first week of June and the last few days the evenings have been better for the bigger fish. My next morning trip available is Monday June 7 after that my books are fairly open. I have a few Saturday evenings still available for June and some Sunday mornings. You can check my availability and book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or you can call me anytime and I’ll get you set up.
