Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Thanksgiving Report

Posted on November 29, 2010

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. It seems that every year I have more to be thankful for than the one before. It is a shame that only one day a year is devoted toward gratitude.   It is something that should be incorporated into our daily lives; a feeling that should be felt in the heart rather than the automatic response of “Thank You” that we are accustomed to. I’m grateful for my wonderful new wife, Megan, a loving family, and all of my clients and the readers of my blog that have helped to make Stripers Inc. a success in its first year, Thank You!

Another thing we can all be grateful for is having such an awesome striper fishery at our disposal. Lake Texoma is cooling down nicely and all of the stripers have gotten so fat they all look like footballs. It has been a busy week for me with a lot of great fishing. The fish have really been turning on and we’ve been catching our limit consistently for the most part, however the fish will not stay put and are moving on almost a daily basis. This week fish are being caught from Little Mineral, to the dam, to up north, to out west. I’ve caught fish on ledges and on flats, in shallow water, and out in 60ft. I’ve caught fish on anchor and drifting, throwing lures and on live bait. Some days the birds are a lot of help and some days they are as lost as you are. The most consistent thing I’ve seen is that when you find them and it’s time to eat, we are loading them up in a hurry catching them three and four at a time. The water is finally cooling down enough to start pulling those big fish out into the main lake and away from the structure along the bank which should make them easier to catch in the coming weeks.

Saturday November 20th I helped out with the Take a Soldier Fishing event. Jerry Dorsey did a great job of putting everything together and the soldiers all had a blast. It feels good to give a little back to those who have sacrificed so much.

Sunday I took off to go to the Dallas game at Cowboys Stadium. The tickets were cheap after their losing streak and I figured if they were going to win a game it would be against Detroit. I was glad they won and it was a neat experience.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday it was back to fishing. Most of them on Live bait but a couple on lures.

I wasn’t allowed to fish on Thursday but we had a wonderful dinner at our house with family

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was more fishing, all in different spots of course and all using bait.

December should be a great month this year with the lake being about 3-4 weeks behind schedule as far as water temperature goes. Last year I was marking water temperatures at 58-60 at the very first of November and I’m just now starting to see temperatures in that range after that cold front went through Thanksgiving.   Right now I still have all of my Saturdays available in December so if you want to get in on some great fishing, you can book your trip online at www.stripersinc.com or you can give me a call anytime at (903)815-1609 and I’ll get you set up.
