Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Winter Fishing

Posted on December 20, 2010

The striper fishing was fantastic out on Texoma this morning. It was nice and warm, at least for December, the birds were working and the fish were biting, what more can you ask for. I threw one anchor under the birds in 50 ft. of water and we quickly caught our 30 fish limit with a few sandies thrown in, I like putting a limit in the boat early, it takes the pressure off to be able to play for the rest of the trip. We decided to tie on some lures and try our luck. Lures seemed to be working just as good as bait but we were fishing a small window of opportunity as we drifted over a ledge in about 20ft. and only got a few casts in before you were too deep. We were using 5” glow sassys on a 1 ½ oz. head and throwing against the wind, letting it fall to the bottom and SLOWLY reeling back, letting it fall back to the bottom every now then, when THUMP!....Fish On! We only had to share the fish with one other boat on the lake and there were plenty to go around. Gotta Love Winter Fishing!
